Since 1909, Herbert Adams bakeries have been serving up fabulous pies and pastry products to Australian families. That’s because Herbert Adams has always used only the best quality ingredients in its products.

In the early days, Herbert Adams products were only available from special Herbert Adams bakery shops, but today the delicious pies and pastry products are available from supermarket and grocery freezers everywhere.

Mr Herbert Adams was born in Taunton, England in 1860. He established a bakery in that town which became so famous that it lent its name to the street, which to this day is known as Cake Alley.

Herbert Adams moved to Australia in 1909 and opened bakeries in Prahran and Brunswick. The bakeries grew to own and operate a large chain of retail outlets throughout the Melbourne metro area and also Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Canberra. Each of these outlets sold a full range of cakes, pastries, pies and other foods manufactured by the Herbert Adams Company. The company-owned retail outlets peaked at about 60 in the late 1970s and it was not until the early 1980s that these outlets began to close.

In 1982, Herbert Adams moved from the manufacture and sale of fresh goods to concentrate on frozen foods. The business was taken national, no longer concentrating on just Victoria and supplied large national retail chains and interstate customers.

Throughout the 1980s, 1990s and today, the Herbert Adams brand has maintained and grown its national frozen bakery business. The brand has always been known for its traditional high quality products and its famous flaky pastry. Today, Herbert Adams specializes in Savoury Party Goods, Pies and Pasties. With new products and flavours being launched regularly, keep a look out for Herbert Adams in your supermarket.
